Cesaropapismo
Sistema político que fusiona el poder civil y religioso. El cesaropapismo fue practicado en el Imperio Bizantino y luego en Rusia, a partir del zar Iván III; apareció también de forma restringida en los Estados alemanes, y fue ejercido por diversos reyes y emperadores medievales. Al imponerse, la Iglesia católica fue chocando con el poder civil clásico, el cual, ya desde Constantino I, intentó a menudo dominar dentro de la institución eclesiástica, o sea, hacer que el césar o emperador estuviera por encima del papa, incluso en materias de competencia de éste.
